Known mostly as a great actress, Irena Jun conceived and created a show that will take you on a journey form thriller to operetta. The Feast is much of a social affair indeed: the spectators are placed in a context similar to that of the protagonist who has the opportunity to take part in one of the countess's famous Friday fasting dinners but cannot hope to become the focus of everybody's attention.
Witold Gombrowicz's early story was adapted by Jun for one actor and a string quartet, to be staged in the theatre's foyer. Halfway between the theatrical and the operatic, the play offers a good sample of Gombrowicz's style and imagination. The performance aspires to more than just refined and humorous piece of acting, it is also a competent handling of Gombrowicz-specific themes.
Premiere: September 3, 2004
